Commencement of the EXPECT Youth ‘First Steps Programme’ in conjunction with Ambition UK

25 August 2017

The EXPECT Youth ‘First Steps Programme’ – focusing on Safeguarding, started in mid-August at the Keepmoat Stadium when representatives from 25 local volunteer community youth groups attended the first training session run by Ambition UK.

This is the initial tranche of an anticipated 70 local volunteer community youth groups that are expected to complete the programme within the next twelve months.
The programme will assist the groups to obtain the First Steps quality mark.  This shows that each group has basic quality standards in place to deliver activities to young people safely and legally. The award can be completed quickly, easily and online and is suitable for youth clubs and community projects without the need for other forms of quality assurance - whilst being externally accredited by Ambition UK.

Once completed, each group can then apply for additional help and support from EXPECT Youth.

There will also be a monthly networking and support meeting for everyone taking part on the programme, allowing them to coordinate their events and develop ideas to maximise opportunities for our young people across the region.

Ambition UK is a leading national body and youth charity working to support and extend the impact of organisations and groups working with young people and on behalf of young people.
