Why these young people loved taking part in Expect Summer

12 July 2019

After it's huge success following its launch in 2018, Expect Youth have been out and about speaking to youngsters about what they loved about Expect Summer.

Expect Summer is a programme which sees activities and events take place across Doncaster for young people aged five to 18 for free.

Hannah, 11, and her sister Hermione, 6, got involved with a range of activities last year and told us what they're looking forward to this year.

Both particularly enjoyed trying tarkwondo. They said: "It was amazing, we learnt lots of different types of kicks and made new friends. We were a bit nervous at first but gained confidence.

"We're looking forward to taekwondo and all of the activities this year, especially Commando Joe's. We like all the obstacle courses and the challenges make us feel motivated and more resilient."

Hannah added: "If we didn't have Expect Summer my tablet would die. It gets us out in the fresh air and the exercise makes us excited.

"I made friends with children at my school who I wasn't friends with before."
